IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE WORLD OF MOTOR RACING WITH THE HYBRID HYPERCAR PEUGEOT 9X8 IN LEGO® TECHNIC™ VERSION

Make a clean sweep of your dining room table! Indeed, it is likely to be invaded by several hundred LEGO® bricks if you want to become the lucky owner of the new PEUGEOT 9X8 hybrid hypercar ... in miniature! Because, yes, it's official, you will now be able to build your own version of the PEUGEOT 9X8 Le Mans endurance race car.
An ultra-precise miniature

Indeed, LEGO® and the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies Team have taken up an incredible challenge to create this miniature version of the PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans. Composed of 1,775 pieces, it is accurate to 1:10 scale! The attention to detail is astounding: the V6 engine and the glow-in-the-dark lighting elements seem to animate the vehicle and really bring the race car to life.
 

At over 13cm high, 22cm wide and 50cm long, this LEGO® racing car is sure to be a thrill for racing fans, PEUGEOT cars and LEGO® fans alike.

Hypercar 9x8: at the gates of the legend

 
PEUGEOT's revolutionary 9X8 hypercar already dazzled the world last year when it made its return to endurance racing (WEC), starting at the 6 Hours of Monza in July 2022. After a fourth place in the 8 Hours of Bahrain in 2022, the PEUGEOT TotalEnergies team is now taking part in the 2023 WEC season, with a view to competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This legendary race will celebrate its centenary in June 2023.

Turning dreams into reality: meeting with Aurélien Rouffiange, LEGO® designer
Design Manager , Aurélien Rouffiange has been working for the LEGO® group in Denmark for over 10 years. He tells us how such a project came about and the secrets of the collaboration between the Brick Brand and the Lion Brand. 
  • Tell us about the genesis of the creation of the 9X8 PEUGEOT in LEGO® TECHNIC™?
    LEGO® TECHNIC™ fans are often fans of vehicles and especially cars. So our teams are always on the lookout for a vehicle idea to add to the LEGO® TECHNIC™ collection. Above all, we look for the originality of a car, its special features that make it stand out from the rest. This is exactly what we found when we discovered the 9X8, 2 years ago. Our designers worked for several months before contacting PEUGEOT to present the project. We already had a model to show them. The PEUGEOT teams were immediately very enthusiastic about the idea of creating a reproduction of their 9X8 hypercar in LEGO® bricks.

 

  • What were the different stages in the creation of this new model ?
    As I said, we first worked on our side to present a project that was already well developed to PEUGEOT.

    When the collaboration between the two brands started, in January 2022, we were very close and very regular in our working sessions. We had a meeting of about an hour every two weeks. And that lasted for about 8 months. The communication with PEUGEOT was very fluid, very pleasant and above all very productive. When the actual vehicle was finished, we spent some time writing the building guide. This is a big part of the job: it has to be clear enough for everyone who starts building the LEGO® car : beginners, amateurs and experts alike. The 9X8 is one of the adult models, but some of our youngest enthusiasts can be very clever, very persistent and very surprising!
     
  • What is your assessment of this collaboration with PEUGEOT?
    First of all, we had a lot of fun working with this French brand. This is, I believe, the first collaboration of LEGO® TECHNIC™ with a French car brand. We are proud to accompany PEUGEOT in its new sporting direction. We have common values, a desire to take on challenges and a communicative energy that has led us to the collegial realisation of this magnificent 9X8 project.
    Thanks to this kind of creation, we make a lot of progress because we have to face new situations which force us to redouble our creativity and technological know-how. For example, on the 9X8, the manufacture of the rear suspensions gave us a hard time and forced us to innovate completely.
    We all went above and beyond to achieve a final result that we are very proud of. 
The LEGO® Technic™ PEUGEOT 9X8 24H Le Mans Hybrid Hypercar set will be available in LEGO® Stores and on www.LEGO®.com, as well as in the PEUGEOT dealer network from May 1.
